Maija Hirvanen is a Finnish choreographer, performance maker and performer. Her work has been shown in Finland, Europe and Russia. The performances have taken place in stages, museums and site specific locations such as an ice hall, hotel room and an old castle. In addition to her solo and group performances, Maija has made many collaborations and projects with other artists. Maija’s interests include relations of art and different belief systems, collaborative processes in cultural practice, performance as collective memory, performance and every day media as well as mechanisms of re-learning.

Maija’s education includes MA studies in visual culture theory and practice at Helsinki University of Arts and Design,/Pori, BA ’Crossing Borders in Performing Arts’ at Turku Art Academy and studies in dance (inc. Turku Conservatory).

Friends of Physical Contemporary Art is the bunch of people who have and will be making work with Maija Hirvanen. Friends of Physical Contemporary Art includes and is made of dancers, performers, designers, other choreographers and artists. Friends of Physical Contemporary Art is an registered association.
