Maija Hirvanen is a choreographer and performance maker based in Helsinki, Finland. In addition to her solo and group performances she has made collaborations and projects with other artists. Maija’s works have been places on stages, galleries and museums. Hirvanen has also made site specific work in, to and with locations such as an old castle, ice hall and hotel room. Hirvanen’s artistic interests in the broad sense have included relations of art and different belief systems, collaborative processes in cultural practice, performance as collective memory, performance and every day media as well as mechanisms of re-learning. Hirvanen is interested in expanding the possibilities of choreography.

Hirvanen’s education includes MA in visual culture theory and practice (Helsinki University of Arts and Design/Pori), BA ‘Crossing Borders in Performing Arts’ at Turku Art Academy and studies in dance (inc. Turku Concervatory). Maija’s art works have been placed both in the national and the international context.
