On Ice re-make 2012

On Ice re-make 2012

14.4. klo 15, 15.4. klo 15, 18.4. klo 19 Kiasma Theatre, Helsinki

On Ice is Maija Hirvanen’s choreographic performance, built around an unhinged female protagonist. On stage, Anna-Maija Terävä is seen negotiating the slippery surfaces of identity wearing a cheerleader’s uniform. On Ice takes its creative cue from Hirvanen’s time as a cheerleader for the Turun Palloseura national league ice hockey team, while she was studying her “serious” art degree. Contradictory and absurd, the experience served as the basis of a solo performance created for another artist, centering on themes such as achievement, at act of gazing and the process of letting go. The subject matter is explored through a humorous perspective.

On Ice premiered at the Zodiak Center for New Dance in Helsinki in 2009 and went on to tour a number of European festivals and venues. Having watched On Ice some 70 times, Hirvanen and her ensemble are now creating a new version of the performance for Kiasma Theatre. The new edition will give expression to the ideas that have matured over the past three years through visits to different stages and encounters with different audiences.

On Sunday 15.4., 12:30-14:30, audiences will have the opportunity to take part in a public workshop involving a series of fund and insightful activities led by Hirvanen. The cost of the workshop is included in the ticket prize and the event is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. To sign up, please send email by 1 April to teatteri(at)kiasma.fi
